What is the Slingshot Music Festival?
The SLINGSHOT Festival takes over downtown Athens, Georgia March 26-28, 2015. Spread over 5 city blocks and dozens of venues, SLINGSHOT spotlights international, national, and local acts on stage, boundary pushing artworks throughout the urban environment, and tech talks with leading innovators. SLINGSHOT also hosts a dedicated comedy night and film screenings.
SLINGSHOT is a hybrid festival that allows
a diverse audience to engage with music,
art and technology as a continuum across
pop, electronic and experimental genres. In
addition, SLINGSHOT has hosted soldout
comedy night shows, and in 2015 adds
film to the growing line-up. SLINGSHOT
has established itself as the event of the year
in Athens as it draws a diverse audience and
creator pool to one of the most historically
creative and beautiful cities in the South.
In 2014, its second year, SLINGSHOT drew
4500+ attendees and the participation of
100+ artists and musicians from 20 countries.
What began 2 years ago as a grassroots effort
by venues, the University of Georgia, the
Athens community, with cultural institutions
around the world, has turned into a yearly
international event in Athens. We anticipate
attendance topping 10k and strong growth
in the following years as SLINGSHOT
becomes the next tastemaker of music, art &
tech and more in the Southeast and beyond.
